As a human, Murdoch participated in WW1 for the American Army. He was shipped home in time just to see the economic boom and crash of the American market in the 1920’s. It was at the crash when he met Myojou. Murdoch was ready to take his own life, which intrigued Myojou, so he brought him to see Kyu, who became obsessed with Murdoch’s depression and PTS. In a cruel twist of irony and fate, Kyu turned Murdoch and is currently training him as a leader. Murdoch reluctantly took part in the killing of Braeden Sr. and his wife, Sara. Because of this, he feels he owes Braeden a great debt, so he has done everything within his power to help him. Murdoch picked Braeden and Kerrian up from the service station (where Demeter is nearly killed in chapter 2) and brings them back to the Tower, assuring them that they would stay safe. Sadly, Kyu turned that into a lie, as he proceeded to stab Braeden with a silver dagger. Using Kerrian’s escape from Tower as a distraction, he frees Braeden and offers him some of his own blood in order to expedite his healing. Soon after, they cross paths at the church. Murdoch tosses Braeden the same silver dagger to aid him in his fight with Kyu, unfortunately, Kyu knocks it out of his hands. After the fight, Murdoch carries Kyu back to Tower and offers a vial of ‘That boys’ blood to help him recover. At this point, Murdoch is the leader of Tower, since he is Kyu’s right-hand man. With this new seniority, Murdoch decides to turn his BloodSlave Lei into a full vampire. The ICG respects this decision, but still dispatches Sidney to assist him. Sidney and Murdoch are civil to each other, but never agree on anything. Murdoch is constantly embarrassed by Marcus after Sidney arrives, proving that he should not have been made leader at all. Murdoch accompanies the team of vampires to the farm, but has no part in the killing of the farming family. he accompanies the rest of the vampires to Arc Coven in Montreal where the Kyu and the ICG determine that he is to be punished. Murdoch is doomed to live forever with his sins.
